Weather warnings
This week is expected to have some of the coldest nights of the year, so please be safe and wrap up warm. There could be disruptions to public transport, so plan your journey to college with extra time. Also keep in mind your normal scheduled lessons may be subject to change. If you feel you cannot attend college, please remember to let us know. |
What is a yellow warning?
Yellow warnings are the lowest on the scale, but they are still significant enough to warrant an alert from the Met Office. They indicate the weather will cause low-level impacts mostly disrupting travel.
Daily routines are not expected to be impacted for the majority of people but for some, they could face significant disruption.

...IT'S CHRISTMAS!
This last week in college has been full of festive fun activities for Christmas. Students have had daily festive movies and quizzes, had a silent disco, and we have been visited by Santa. We also had offsite trips to the theatre, escape rooms and dinners. Through December we have raised money for charities with The Advent Calander Appeal and The Santa Stroll. We had the Christmas Fete, Xmas Door decorating competition and our Advent Calander winners. Foundation Studies staff even won the best Christmas Jumpers competition this year! It's been a packed December, It's our way of saying thank you to all our wonderful students for their effort and hard work. Thank you and Merry Christmas!
the Advent calendar Appeal
A Great BIG Thank You!
We wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to our advent calendar appeal for Widnes Food Bank.
We set ourselves a target for 100 we reached 200! As part of their community project, our pathway to independence students collected donations from family, friends, college staff and other students. All to raise money for their local community. These calendars will make a massive difference in the lives of local families in need, helping them celebrate Christmas without worrying about the cost. Widnes Food Bank is part of a network working to tackle food poverty and hunger in our local communities, as well as across the UK. |
Foodbanks provide emergency food to people in crisis.
Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. A simple box of food makes a big difference, with foodbanks helping prevent crime, housing loss, family breakdown and mental health problems. |
ASPIRE Week
ASPIRE is an acronym for the six principles of positive education. Agency, Safety, Positivity, Inclusion, Respect and Equity. For us, ASPIRE week is an activity week that is focused on new group experiences. Giving students their own choices and the opportunity to work together in an interesting break from the norm. The sessions encourage team bonding and positivity. Or if students prefer, it can just be relaxing experience with their peers.

NCS Trip
For a week our student groups where away from the Foundation Campus and onsite at Kingswood, Colomendy. They stayed in woodland lodges and spent their time participating in a variety of outdoor and team based activities.
These activities are designed to be fun and challenging, with focus on team building and bonding with their peers. Guided by Foundation staff and the experienced Kingswood team. Students were encouraged to challenge themselves, to understand their own limits and learn how those boundaries may be overcome. |
Activities: Archery. Zip line. Neon disco. Rock climbing. Paddle boarding. Camp fire & Survival. Team building & bonding games. Map reading & Orienteering. Forrest scavenger hunt.

What is NCS?
NCS (National Citizen Service) is a part of the Government's National Youth Guarantee. Through funded trips away from home, students can develop new skills to help them become world-and work-ready. |
Enrichment Fayre
Foundation students have recently took part in a Enrichment Fayre. Here they could ask about the subjects on offer, then sign up to an enrichment activity to do alongside their regular subjects.
These enrichment activities are an opportunity for students to learn interesting new skills, socialize with others and relax in college, without the pressure of producing work. They are student driven sessions with no tutors, supported by our learning support team.
