Beyond Boundaries: Work Project
Beyond Boundaries is the name of our work project. It's purpose is to place Foundation Studies students into a real workplace, giving them the opportunity to learn practical skills. So alongside their regular studies, students can prepare for the transition into work.

Benefits to Students
|
What to expect
Students who are interested in taking part, will have a very friendly chat with our Work Experience Officer. This will help us understand your needs and the types of work you would like to do. We will discuss and agree a schedule, that allows students to continue their regular studies. While also meeting the employers needs.
Students will be supervised at all times during the work placement. By either our Work Experience Officer or a experienced staff member from the placement. This is to help remove any anxiety from joining a new workplace and also learn from an experienced worker.
Employers are not required to employ students after placement. But students can add their work experience onto their CV'S, add employers as a reference or in some cases employers may offer further opportunities.

CASE STUDY: MEET JOE...This is Joe, we are so proud of Joe because he has completed his placement at Brew Land Cafe.
Joe is a great example of the positive effect a work placement can have. He has increased his confidence and learned new skills, while working in a real cafe environment. Holly from Brew Lane told us: |
COMMUNITY: WONKEY GARDENFoundation studies students also have the opportunity to work on one of our community projects. This is for students to work offsite, as they would on a work placement. But without any pressure to meet new people or perform set tasks for a employer.
Our current community project is The Wonkey Garden at Ditton Community Centre in Widnes. |
What to expect
Students will primarily be developing and maintaining The Wonkey Gardens grounds. Learning new horticulture and woodworking skills. There's a strong focus on following instructions and contributing as a team member. Then practising those new skills regularly to complete a project for the community. These practical work groups have had a significant benefit for each student, helping them to develop and prepare for adulthood.
|
By giving students independence to problem solve and find solutions along side their peers. The activities have increased their confidence, team building and communication skills. These tasks naturally develop their employability skills. Like listening and following instructions, using proper tools/equipment and managing their own safety gear.
Engaging with nature during this project, also benefits students with high anxiety or mental health difficulties. Giving these students a way to work away from the formal setting of a classroom in a more relaxed environment.
